Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Walk?
The Walk2Romania was established as a fundraising event for Emanuel Children's Home in Romania. The original plan was to have 150 people each walk 10 miles so together we cover the 1500 miles between Cheshire and Cluj Naopca. All the sponsorship money would be used to help run Emanuel and the work in Romania. Things have changed little over the years and the Walk is still a major fundraising event in the CCM calendar.

Where do we meet?
We meet on the car park to Stockley Farm on the Arley Estate. We will have a big marquee with banners around to help you find where we are.

What time does the Walk start?
We begin to gather from 12 noon for our picnic lunches. The Walk begins en masse at 1pm.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
Sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate to the weather. Don't forget the hats and suncream if the weather is looking good. We will provide water.

Can I bring my dog(s)?
Dogs are welcome on all parts of the Walk route on the condition they are kept on leads at all times. The Walk covers farm land with grazing animals and areas of Stockley Farm that are open to the public with young children present. Dogs must not be left to freely roam at any time. Please remember to bring drinking water and bowls for your dogs.

I can't make it on the day. Does that mean I can't take part?
Many people for many reasons cannot always make it to the organised Walk on the day arranged. You can still raise money for CCM by finding your own 5 mile route which you can walk on a day and time to suit you. We can give you sponsor forms and your efforts will count towards the overall fundraising result of the Walk.

I don't live anywhere near Cheshire. Can I set up a local Walk?
If you would like to set up a CCM Charity Walk near you we would be delighted. We will give you all the help we can and pass on any expertise and advise we have gathered over the years. We can provide you with all the administration support, banners, balloons, "thank you" freebies and anything else you might need. Please contact the office on 01606 782244 or email us.

Where does my sponsor money go?
You can choose which CCM project you would like to support:
  • Emanuel Children's Home in Romania
  • My Father's House in Thailand
  • Church and Community Programme in India

  • Click on the project of interest for more information.

    What should I do next?
  • Complete and return your registration form. You can download one here. We will then send you some sponsor forms.
  • Ask your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to sponsor you for taking part in the Walk. As you do, try and encourage even more people to join in on the Walk. If you would like leaflets and registration forms, contact the office on 01606782244 or email Walk to Romania Co-Ordinator.
  • Enjoy the day! Meet up with friends old and new and have a great day walking through the Cheshire countryside - or wherever you have chosen to Walk.
  • Now the hard work really begins! Time to go back to everyone who promised to sponsor you and gather in all the money. Once you have collected it all, send a cheque to the Walk to Romania Co-Ordinator in the office, with your sponsor forms. Any cheques should be made payable to Christian Community Ministries. You can drop any cash into the Office at 97 Runcorn Road, Barnton.

    Involve your Company
Many employers offer some sort of scheme whereby they will match your fundraising efforts. Perhaps you could persuade some of your colleagues to join you on the walk and ask your employers to double your sponsorship. Perhaps you could persuade your employers to start such a scheme!

    Involve Your Church
Use the Walk as an opportunity to spend some time with others from your church. Why not all pack a picnic and come down to Arley early to enjoy fellowship with one another before the off. Try asking some non-Christian friends and family to come along too!

    Involve Your Family
The Walk2Romania really is a family affair. For little legs there is a 1-mile route which begins (or ends) at Stockley Farm with a tractor ride back to the marquee after a look around the farm. Dogs are welcome on the Walk provided they are kept on leads at all times.

    Involve Your School
You don't have to go to Arley Hall to raise money for CCM. You could have a sponsored walk around your school field, you could include an assault course along the way. Ask family and friends to sponsor you and raise money for Emanuel Children's Home having some great fun and exercise.
